Coming off a historic day where an estimated 5.2 million of you all showed up to join us to declare that We the People reject the Trump/Musk administration’s war on our freedoms and future, the 50501 movement has declared Saturday, April 19th a nationwide day of action! Across the US people will be organizing food drives, volunteering at shelters, hosting teach-ins, and finding other creative ways to show up for their communities and push back against this administration. There will be plenty of protests across the country and DMV by other 50501 groups but continued mobilization also requires continual aid.
We at 50501 DC are committed to the mission of community being our strength, and so we are launching our first mutual aid event on the 50501 movement’s Day of Action. Our neighbors and collective family, including federal workers, have been impacted by recent job losses and policies of the Trump/Musk administration. This is why we do mutual aid, because we take care of us, not just when it’s easy, but especially when it’s not. Keep an eye on this space for more information, as well as upcoming direct actions organized or supported by 50501 DC for ways to get involved.
Not able to donate to our food drive? Volunteer in your community! Every action, no matter how small, makes your community better. Whether it’s picking up trash on the side of the road, helping at a farmer’s market, or holding up a sign with positive words of encouragement, every action matters.
Don’t worry – we haven’t given up on protesting! We are planning future protests, so keep an eye out. Our movement is not only about protesting – it is about creating a community and supporting one another during difficult times. If you’re still interested in protesting on April 19th, our friends at Mobilize and Pol-Rev track all events nationwide, including local DC protests.
All items can be dropped off at Franklin Park, located at 1332 I St NW, Washington, DC 20005.
