Drag Story Hour

Drag Story Hour

In solidarity with WorldPride DC, we are coordinating with Rainbow Defense Coalition (RDC) in supporting Drag Story Hour at four of their upcoming family-friendly storytime events.

Suggested for all ages, particularly families with pre-school and elementary kiddos! This performance brought to audiences free of charge, courtesy of World Pride!

About Drag Story Hour:

Drag Story Hour (DSH) celebrates reading through the glamorous art of drag! At a DSH event, drag storytellers read picture books aloud to kids utilizing the traditional “storytime” structure, a format widely recognized by librarians and educators as an effective and fun early literacy experience for children and their families. Our chapters produce joyful events where kids can express their authentic selves and become bright lights of change. We envision a world where kids can learn from LGBTQ+ stories and experiences to love themselves, celebrate the fabulous diversity in their communities, and stand up for what they believe in.

About Rainbow Defense Coalition (RDC):

Our mission is to protect and show support for LGBTQ+ family events in the D.C. Metro area. We shield children from protesters and hate at Drag Story Hour DMV events, creating a Rainbow Brigade to welcome families. We use Pride flags and rainbow umbrellas to block angry faces and hateful signs, and play Disney music to cover hateful chanting. We work directly with venues and event organizers to create as safe and welcoming an environment as possible.
